Glee: Season 6, Episodes 1-3
2:48 am
I know I'm way behind the crowd but I've been super busy recently! Anyway, I set aside this evening for a lazy night lounging around in my dorm room eating Doritos and watching TV (I know right, I'm such a cool student staying in on a Saturday night) and finally caught myself up on Glee.
I'm totally bummed that this is going to be the last season. I've grown up watching this show since I was twelve years old and only just starting high school and now here I am, an official adult in college. I've been really excited about this final season though since all the promos look great and I'm in love with the entire original cast, so it's great that they're finally bringing them all back to McKinley! So, without further ado, here's my ridiculously over-excited review of season 6, episodes 1-3! I'm going to go ahead and assume that if you're reading this, you're also a major Glee fan and have therefore seen these episodes so don't need the entire plot explaining! However, if you're a major Glee fan but haven't yet seen the episodes then I advise you look away now just in case I ruin anything for you!
Aside from this insane level of perfection, the Dalton Warblers continue to be an insanely talented group (although I must admit I'm missing a little bit of Sebastian in there somewhere!) However, the presence of Chris Colfer and Chord Overstreet as main cast make up for this loss, plus the return of DAVE KAROFSKY, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! I won't go into major detail as to why Dave's back but talk about a plot twist and a half! I'm loving it though and I can see that Glee's mixing it up a little bit this season while also staying true to its roots. In terms of the episode as a whole, I really can't complain. Cast = great. Songs = great. Script = great. Glee is back baby!

Loser Like Me
So when this episode starts, pretty much everything is falling apart for Rachel - her TV show was a bust, she's forced to move back home, her parents are getting divorced and her life seems to have no direction anymore! While I must admit that it started to seem as if nothing more could go wrong, which is a pretty frustrating situation to be in when watching one of your favourite characters, Glee turned it all around with an AWESOME rendition of one of my favourite show tunes, Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors. If you haven't already watched this, check it out now because Darren Criss and Lea Michele are just... perfection.Homecoming
Now this is the episode I'd really been looking forward to because there's only one thing that "Homecoming" can mean and that's THE RETURN OF THE ENTIRE ORIGINAL CAST! (Excuse the caps but, as you can probably tell, I'm pretty excited about this). For me, this is what Glee is all about and the moment that I truly felt that fireworks-in-your-stomach feeling was during the reunion of the Unholy Trinity because, let's face it, nobody can quite kill a song and dance number like these three can (and, no offence to Ariana Grande, but I'm extremely thankful for this cover now that I can actually hear the lyrics easily).
Aside from the return of the originals, we're introduced to four new characters - all of whom get great exposition, leaving you feeling as if you actually know and care about them as opposed to having them just plonked on your lap! My personal favourite right now is Roderick, the first official member of the new Glee club who is pretty reluctant and shy to join, but equally adorable and talented. I think I'm gonna like these newbies...
They round it off with a good old group number, leaving you with that warm fuzzy feeling that only Glee seems to provide... Check it out here.
Jagged Little Tapestry
Back to the good old mash-up episodes! Although I can't say I'm familiar with either of these albums, this is still a great episode in terms of music, plus the plot lines start to become more serious as we're progressing further into the season. I hear wedding bells in the distance for a certain Cheerios couple - something which doesn't sit well with Kurt, resulting in one of the best scenes of the episode as Santana goes all Lima Heights on Kurt. I had forgotten how seriously awesome Naya Rivera is.
Plus we see Becky Jackson embarking upon her first serious relationship which initially concerns a few members of the Glee club as they see Becky as more vulnerable than the rest of them, but Becky's boyfriend helps them to realise that Becky is just the same as everybody else and should therefore be treated as such. A good lesson for all to learn. I guess the biggest plot line in this episode though is that of Coach Beiste, as we learn that she has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and is planning to undergo sex reassignment surgery. This is the first time in the show that an issue like this has been addressed and it's one of the reasons why I love Glee so much; it's not afraid to address issues such as this that you don't see regularly on television shows.
I must admit, I was a little bit worried about this last season. Glee is so important to so many people and I just really wanted these last few episodes to be totally and utterly right. And from what I've seen so far, I really think they will be. This feels right, this feels like Glee at its very best.
I don't really want to round off this post without mentioning Cory Monteith, somebody so important to this show who I still miss every single episode. Glee will never be the same without him, but the cast are still amazing and I'm so proud of them all for choosing to continue the show. We all still miss you so much, Cory.
I'll leave you with the last performance from Jagged Little Tapestry - one gorgeous mash-up.
I hope you're all loving Glee just as much as I am right now.
